Alternative heating solutions have been around for a while, but concerns over oil prices have sparked more interest in finding new methods or refining old ones so more Americans can heat their homes cheaply and more environmentally friendly.

Another method called geothermal heating collects the heat from the earth itself to heat your home. Like solar heating, it is a renewable energy source—something more people are considering in the current economic climate. Even old woodstoves that burn on wood, corn, and pellets are being consider alternative heating sources by those who have noticed the move from oil and natural gas.
The costs of these alternative heating solutions can vary depending on how complex a system you have installed. As with anything, it would serve you well to do some shopping around and plenty of research before you invest one of these heating methods.
